A study led by researchers from the Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center found bariatric surgery reduces the incidence of heart attack, stroke or death by 50%. The researchers analyzed data from more than 9,000 middle-aged to elderly patients who were morbidly obese to find 85% did not have a heart attack or a stroke within five years after the surgery.
