Study: New biomarker can help diagnose early Alzheimer's disease

A German study published in Neurology found that the buildup of soluble amyloid precursor protein beta in the cerebrospinal fluid of patients with mild cognitive impairment could indicate that Alzheimer's disease is starting to develop. Soluble APP-beta "probably provides diagnostic information that is more proximate to the core pathological processes of AD than amyloid-beta 42, which only mirrors pathological events at the end of the disease cascade," said study author Dr. Robert Perneczky.
