Gastric bypass beats Lap-Band for weight loss, study finds
U.S. researchers said about 86% of morbidly obese patients who underwent gastric bypass surgery shed more than 40% of their excess weight, compared with about 31% of patients who had Lap-Band surgery. Post-surgical complication rates were comparable for the two groups, but those who had Lap-Band surgery were more likely to require another surgery, according to the study in the Archives of Surgery.
