Study ties NSAID use to lower risk of bladder cancer

Bladder cancer occurred in one out of 244 people who used nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as naproxen and ibuprofen, more than twice per week compared with one out of 185 people who didn't use NSAIDS aside from aspirin, a meta-analysis in the American Journal of Epidemiology found. One possible reason for the finding is that NSAIDs reduce inflammation that increases the risks of cancer-causing DNA mutations, said Dr. Daniel Djakiew, a cancer researcher not involved in the study.
